Madagascar bets $225 million on resilient cities that create jobs
PRODUIRE2 will bring climate-resilient infrastructure to 1.5 million people in Greater Antananarivo and Greater Toamasina — rebuilding 20,000 homes, titling 50,000 parcels, and creating some 17,000 jobs by 2032, with GFDRR and Japan’s QII Partnership behind the analytics.
Why it matters: the clearest current example of the resilience-equals-jobs argument turned into an actual lending operation.

Santa Catarina moves to flood-proof the economy of the Itajaí Valley
A new World Bank project will protect some 420,000 people across 54 municipalities in a Brazilian state where floods and landslides have cost more than $7.2 billion since 1991 — and where the 2008 floods put the port city of Itajaí 90 percent underwater.
Why it matters: flood risk here is supply-chain risk — the Itajaí Valley generates a third of the state’s jobs and hosts Brazil’s second-busiest container port.
